At the 2024 "Yu Shan Academic Award" ceremony held on May 14 by National Central University and Yu Shan Bank, Assistant Professor Huang Zi-Ling from the Department of Information Management received the award. The award was presented by Mr. Chen Mao-Chin, General Manager of Yu Shan Financial Holdings (right). Her published work appeared in the prestigious international journal *Information Systems Research* in the field of information management. Her paper provides concrete recommendations for online forum managers to improve forum design and operation.
Dr. Yang Chen-Hua, Chief R&D Officer of National Central University, stated that this year marks the fourth year of collaboration between the university and the Yu Shan Academic Award. With the support of the award, academic research in the field of management has been significantly boosted, and there is anticipation for recognizing more outstanding faculty members. Dean Yeh Chin-Hui of the College of Management added that publishing in top academic journals is challenging due to the balance between teaching and research, involving substantial time, effort, and dedication. Despite the challenges, the "Yu Shan Academic Award" offers warm and substantial support on the research journey, greatly motivating the faculty.
Mr. Chen Mao-Chin highlighted that the Yu Shan Academic Award has been established for 14 years, covering fields such as finance, accounting, marketing, information management, operations management, and organizational management. This award promotes domestic management research in alignment with international standards and encourages the outcomes of top academic research. To date, 77 awards have been presented, with four professors from National Central University being honored. The goal is to help more outstanding scholars achieve international recognition and have a greater impact through the "Yu Shan Academic Award."
Assistant Professor Huang Zi-Ling’s award-winning paper is titled "The Influence of Media Capabilities on Knowledge Contribution in Online Communities." The study indicates that online forums allow users to connect with others who share their interests and acquire necessary knowledge and information. While traditional online forums typically use asynchronous communication, advances in information technology and media tools have blurred the lines between asynchronous and synchronous communication. This research innovatively proposes a theoretical mechanism for the impact of different media capabilities on the goals of online forums and identifies that establishing connections with other users is key to fostering commitment in online forums, while creating a shared knowledge base contributes to personal growth, making the paper highly insightful.
